Many students from universities and schools are now able to study online via video conferencing, e-mail assignments, and chatting with their teachers. It is not easy for everyone because of the unfamiliar format. We will offer advice for students who have had to change to distance learning because of various reasons.
Due to the serious epidemiological situation in many countries, ministries of science and higher learning have allowed universities to transition to distance learning and training. This practice is common in all countries and helps to decrease the number of infections.
It is easy for universities in the humanities to move to distance learning. However, it can be difficult for technical universities to make the switch without having to attend face-to-face lab work. Most cases will not require that the logic of curricula be changed to maintain the quality of education. The semester will end or the next semester, so lab, practicum, or similar work can be moved. Software changes, modifications in the format of used materials, and other organizational problems can also be a problem. Students, not only universities as institutions, face difficulties. Many of these difficulties stem from false stereotypes. How can you deal with them?
Tip1. Distance education is not a freebie
Unfortunately, distance education is much harder for a student than full-time education. In the absence of direct eye contact with the teacher or the disciplined atmosphere at the university, it is difficult to keep motivation high when you are separated from your familiar study group. Classes from home can also create a false sense “simplicity”, especially if you attend them from a “lying down”.
To be successful in the learning process, students must put forth more effort than they do to stay at home.
We recommend that you follow the same daily routine as regular full-time studies. We don’t recommend that you study remotely in your own home clothes. On the one hand, classmates and teachers will see you. On the other, the body is forced to “tune into” the essence of the process by following the routines of full-time education. Don’t sit down while studying – get up and stand at the table. Third, don’t interrupt class by watching movies, soap operas, or playing computer games.
Listening material must be taken more seriously. Discipline is key to distance learning success, even more so than face-to-face. This is backed up by many studies.
Tip 2: Video material won’t work in your memory
You should actually keep a record of all material, especially lectures, even if it isn’t part of your daily study. Traditional perceptions of video content are tightly tied to the perceptions of soap operas and movies. These require little effort to understand and perceive. It doesn’t matter if formulas aren’t written on a board or on chalkboard, but they are on a video.
Rereading a lecture recorded on tape won’t make it easier to understand than watching a movie, but taking notes will. Take notes during lectures and seminars. You can ask any questions you have in chat. Such actions will help you understand the study material on your own, without using research writing help.
Tip 3. Ask questions
Many university professors don’t have any experience with distance education. They don’t know how to hold an audience’s attention in this situation. They don’t have the ability to see the reactions of others, so it is difficult for them understand why their material isn’t being understood. Distance learning is more than an online course.
Ask questions immediately to help the instructor understand the material better. You should also not be afraid of asking more questions than usual. This will help the teacher quickly correct the material. If the teacher is not able to answer them, record the answers in chat.
This is where the true quality of education depends on the student. Post questions and ask questions after the seminar or lecture. The process will collapse if there is no feedback.
Tip4. Distance format requires self-study
Self-study, even if it isn’t stated, is an essential part of distance learning. You will miss a lot of content that the teacher cannot tell you. It will also be difficult to learn the “extras”, especially if your time zone is different.
If you live in a time zone that is more than three hours from the university, we don’t recommend you going home. Evening classes will finish in the middle of the evening.
You can keep track of the gaps in your knowledge by yourself. Distance learning can be more challenging than traditional full-time education. This means that you will need to put more effort into your results. Distance learning requires you to practice, repeat tasks, and where possible, online courses. Keep in touch with your group, by the way.
Tip 5. Lack of motivation
Distance learning is a time-saver. Distance learning gives you at least two hours per day to do what you love, and not have to commute to university. Many universities will cut down on the number of classes by eliminating physical education. Spend it on walking, or relaxing.
It’s a mistake. It can be frustrating and it can lead to a loss of discipline. You can take an online course, which is now available free of charge. Because they have created effective testing systems, you should focus on programming and humanities.
It’s simple, don’t relax. Even though you may have a lot of time to study, it is only going to get worse. Each student has the chance to be a competitive advantage on the job market in the current period. This is a real chance to create your own career path.
